Carolyn C. Grenell

Carolyn C. Grenell, 86, of Bloomfield passed away on March 15, 2016. Born to Frederick and Florence Cross on May 12, 1929 in Chicago, Carolyn grew up in Montclair and attended Montclair public schools. She earned a teaching degree from the University of Vermont, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She taught in Manchester, VT, Glen Ridge and Livingston. After taking time to raise her family she worked as a substitute teacher in Bloomfield, and then as an administrative assistant at C.E. Lummus Company, retiring in 1985.
Carolyn was a very caring person who was involved in many church and community activities. She was an ordained Elder at Watchung Presbyterian Church, and faithfully served the church in many ways. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Upper Montclair, serving as secretary in recent years. An avid golfer, bowler and bridge player, she greatly enjoyed time spent with her many friends. Her love of travel took her and her husband Arthur too many interesting places around the world.
Carolyn loved spending time with her family, who will greatly miss her. She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur, of 60 years, and their children, Thomas of Emporia, VA, Nancy Barta and her husband James of Wantage, and James and his wife Brigitte of West Chester, PA. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Smith and her husband George of Palmyra, PA, and four grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler and Sarah Grenell, and Joseph Barta, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Carolyn will take place at Watchung Presbyterian Church, 355 Watchung Ave., Bloomfield at 11:00 on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
