Edward C. Rodgers, born on September 22, 1947, in Newark, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in West Orange, New Jersey surrounded by his family. He was a dedicated public servant, having devoted 35 years of his life to the New Jersey State Police. His profound commitment to law enforcement and his community earned him the distinguished title of Bloomfield Police Department Man of the Year in 2001.
Ed was known for his personable and hardworking demeanor, embodying the qualities of a true mentor who generously shared his time and wisdom with others. He was cherished by many, becoming a friend to all who crossed his path. Ed had a deep passion for life, evident in his love for watching his grandchildren, Thomas and Kate, play sports and spending precious moments with them.
An ardent sports enthusiast, he was also a big fan of Villanova football, relishing every opportunity to celebrate the team's achievements.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Joann Rodgers, daughter Kim Colello, son-in-law Steve Colello, grandchildren Thomas and Kate, and several nieces and nephews who will all remember him fondly for his warmth and generosity. He is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Rodgers, and his mother, Mildred Rodgers.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for May 26, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Halpin-Bitecola Brookdale Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 1284 Broad St, Bloomfield, NJ. A Mass will be held at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church on May 27, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ, at 11:30 AM.
Ed leaves behind a legacy of service, friendship, and love that will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
