Susan Purcell, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on September 16, 1955, in East Orange, NJ, Susan lived a life marked by strength, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her.
For years, dedicated herself to her career as a medical secretary at St. Barnabus Medical Center, where her caring nature and strong will helped countless individuals during their times of need. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family and friends.
Susan’s life was rich with passions that brought her joy. She loved to read, finding solace and adventure between the pages of her favorite books. Moreover, she cherished every moment spent with her husband of 33 years, Nicholas Purcell, and their beloved dogs, Reggie and Tootsie. Their home was always filled with love and warmth, a testament to the deep bonds they shared.
Her fierce spirit was evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal battles. Susan fought illness for over 20 years with grace and determination, demonstrating an extraordinary resilience that inspired all who knew her. She approached each challenge with a positive attitude, solidifying her reputation as a pillar of strength.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas; her dear sister, Cynthia DeRosa, and her brother-in-law, Dominick DeRosa; and her beloved niece Sarah DeRosa; her lifelong best friend, Michelle Boland; and good friend, Bob Boland. Each of these relationships was a source of profound joy and support in her life.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Eskdale, whose memories she carried in her heart throughout her life.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Susan’s remarkable life. Visitation will be held at Halpin-Bitecola-Brookdale Funeral & Cremation Services in Bloomfield, NJ, on October 10, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass will take place the following day, October 11, 2024, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair at 11:30 AM.
In remembering Susan, let us reflect on her legacy of love, strength, and giving – qualities that touched the lives of all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones
