Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mariano M. Laya, Jr., lovingly known as "Jun." He peacefully departed this world on July 3, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic at the age of 78. Jun held a Bachelor's in Medical Technology and practiced at The Makati Medical Center in the Philippines. Jun was a devoted family man who cherished spending quality time with his loved ones. Whether it was sharing laughter over a delicious meal or simply enjoying each other's company, his presence brought joy to all those around him. His culinary skills were particularly renowned, and the lucky recipients could always count on a delightful taste of his mouthwatering salmon fresh off the grill. Sports played an integral role in Jun's life as well. He found great pleasure in following both basketball and football, often captivated by a thrilling game. Cultivating his garden brought him immense happiness as he tenderly nurtured each plant with love and care. Aside from these passions, Jun possessed extensive knowledge about sports cars and relished sharing his insights with anyone who showed an interest. Furthermore, he had an impeccable sense of style that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Jun leaves behind a legacy of love cherished by his devoted wife, Farley Laya (nee Divinagracia). He also leaves behind his brother Omar, two sisters Perlita Fernandez and Marivic Weekes, nephews Jay, Ronnie, Manny, Bong, nieces Donna, Menchu, Malou, Mariscel, grandchildren Tiarah, Kyle, Jaden, Casey, Mikko, Klarissa, Cheyenne, Deijah, Gerome, and sisters-in-law, Josefina, Geo, and Marimel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mariano M. Laya Sr. and Concepcion Laya, and a brother, Napoleon Laya. A gathering to honor Jun's beautiful life will take place from 4-8 pm on Sunday, July 9, at the Halpin-Bitecola Funeral Home located at 1284 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Phillip the Apostle Church in Clifton on Monday, July 10, at 10 am.
