Obituary

On Sunday June 4, 2023, Allen Walsh, a lifetime resident of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 90. As a young man, Al worked on a farm in Bloomfield, he also hunted and rode horses around the area. He would recall the days before the GS Parkway, when he explored the area on horseback and discovered some mischief. Allen and Betty where married near Fort Bragg, NC where he trained in the army and eventually deployed to Korea where he served in the Military Police. He came home and soon became employed by NJ Bell where he had a 35 year career before retiring in 1989. He was a very handy man, known to be a "Jack of All Trades". After retiring Al helped his family to do a number of major renovations and remodeling jobs, bathrooms were his specialty. Al and Betty purchased a second home near the beach just before retirement in 1985. Together they renovated and updated their beach bungalow that has been enjoyed by family since. Al loved to cook and eat, always was entertaining friends and family at his home. Allens favorite past time was fishing on the beach and cooking up a fresh catch. Allen was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty, as well as his daughter-in-law Pam Walsh. Allen leaves behind his daughter, Debra Walsh; sons, Stephen Walsh, his wife Roberta, Michael Walsh, Allen Jr., Patrick Walsh, his wife Lori; grandchildren, Steve, Kelly, Samantha, Ryan, Megan, Alexandra and Julia; great-granddaughter, Emily. Friends and family may visit for a memorial service from 1-4pm, with religious service at 3:30, on Thursday June 8th, at Halpin-Bitecola Funeral Home, located at 1284 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. In Lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Allens name to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalmssociety.org .
