Obituary

Richard William O'Reilly, aka “Richo” “The Big O” passed away at home on July 13, 2025 at the age of 73 in West Caldwell, NJ surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and kindness. Known for his Irish wit and generous spirit, Richo had a way of making everyone feel at ease—always ready with a joke and a helping hand.

He was a truly good man: kind, caring, and full of heart. At the center of his life was his wife of 49 years, Michelle - his love and best friend. Their bond was the epitome of devotion, laughter and wholehearted support.

Richo was also a beloved brother to Aileen DesRosiers and her husband Wayne, and a treasured member of the large extended Spatola and Diveny families. Predeceased by his parents, William and Doris O'Reilly and sister Joyce Hakimian and her husband John. “Richo made many friends at Prudential Insurance Company where he worked for over 40 years”.

The Big O was warm, witty, and deeply generous. His humor lifted spirits, his loyalty anchored friendships, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

In the words of Uncle Frank Diveny “You could mourn, but go mourn someplace else.”

The Mass will be on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 9:30, Feast day of St. Anne and St. Joachim, Jesus' grandparents, St. Aloysius Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, N.J. 07006.  For those who cannot attend, the mass will be live streamed. Check back later for the link.

RichO - you touched my life in so many great ways as I enjoyed many years of friendship with you at Pru, at the Landmark, at your house, and at St. Patrick's Day parades. Your life was a job well done. Toasting you today and always as you now look over us. Greg O (Orban)

So saddened to hear of RichO’s passing. His positive attitude toward life and a million little things made him so special to so many of us. One for me was that he first let you pick out the color of your fiesta plate when dining at the O’Rielly’s. RichO is a treasure who will be missed. Kevin Rossi
