Obituary
Michael J. DeBlis Jr., passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He is survived by Lorraine DeBlis, his wife and best friend for 45 years; his son and namesake as well as his law partner, Michael J. DeBlis III; his son, Ryan and daughter-in-law, Kristy; his daughter, Courtney and son-in-law Daniel Rubin and their new baby Gordon; his brother Mark DeBlis; his Sister Karen Kukus and his chocolate lab and loyal companion, Bella as well as his Golden retriever Granddog, Gracie Mae. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Michael Sr. and Agnes DeBlis. Michael was a loving husband, father and dog lover. He and Bella started everyday at 4:30AM when they would head over to Hot Bagels Abroad in Bloomfield and visit his favorite bagel crew, then onto the courthouses of New Jersey where he practiced law for 50 years. He looked forward to working every day with his many colleagues and friends. Michael was always ready to help anyone in need and believed the Lord put him exactly where He wanted him to be every minute of every day. He especially loved when the Lord put him at the ocean, Disney World or in front of - or in - a hockey game along with any (or all) of his children. He lived for family and prayed for more time to spend with Grandchildren. He was so proud of his three children and always looked forward to visiting with them and their great extended families and friends. He was eternally grateful to the wonderful Doctors at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and Memorial Sloan Kettering in Montvale. “In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Michael J. To the DeBlis family, Our deepest regrets to all of you, friends and family. A loss for many. Mike was a dear friend, I wanted to volunteer and coach ice hockey and was paired with Mike at Clary Anderson arena, we coached numerous teams over the years. I enjoyed all those games. I admired Mikes work ethic, positive attitude and his encouragement for the players. He always had a great smile, laugh and made the most/best out of every situation on/off the ice. He encouraged me to referee ice hockey, I refereed my first game ever with him and many more. He always gave me great advise on many subjects. He took the time to write a letter of reference for me. Which I appreciate to this day. A great family man, lawyer, husband, coach, USA Referee, father, neighbor. I will always remember our talks, of course across the street at the bagel shop where everyone knew his name. They should name a bagel after him.(The DeBlis) or (Nice call ref :)) I know his wonderful wife and children, Who are great people and will carry his legacy out in the world. I like many shall miss his infectious smile, laugh and positive outlook. May his memory be eternal, God Bless Mike, "See you on the Ice" Love Don, Despina, Ryan, Karisa and Katie Taggart

I feel honored to have known Mike and worked along side of him at the Bergen County Courthouse. He was a passionate fighter for the rights of all people charged with crimes. Mike was also a true gentleman and he will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family. Rest in peace my friend.

The Nelson Family will forever be grateful for Mike DeBlis. Mike and Lorraine welcomed our son, Lars, into their home and hearts while he was a medical student. They treated him as if he was one of their own sons. Although many years have passed, we continue to think of Mike and Lorraine as Lars’ New Jersey parents! Our thoughts and prayers are with Lorraine, Michael, Ryan, Courtney, close family and friends during this sad and difficult time; and, yet, we celebrate Mike’s release from pain and suffering into his heavenly home, while looking forward to seeing him again in Eternity. Love, The Nelsons: Hank and Sherry, Niles, Lars and Kristin, Leah, Siena, and Audrey

I send my deepest condolences to the DeBlis family for Michael DeBlis Jr. He was a great person. I met him through his daughter who went to middle and high school with me. I also went to high school with Michael Jr's son, Ryan. Michael Jr raised his family very well. He is missed greatly.
