Obituary

Nora May Welten, 78, of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away on June 5, 2025 at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ.

Nora was born September 14,1946 in Baltimore, MD to the late George and Victoria (Mitchell) Allen. Nora was a master knitter and belonged to many knitting groups who shared her joy and passion for her craft. She would go on road trips to get the perfect yarn for various knitting projects she was working on. She was a woman with great style and fashion, always dressed and accessorized in a perfect ensemble. She enjoyed going to dinner, plays, musicals with her friends. Nora loved music and was an avid fan of Neil Diamond, as was expressed in the naming of her beloved dog Holly Holy. Nora worked as a legal secretary and for the past several decades with the firm Connell Foley, LLP through the end of December 2024. She was a dedicated support staff with vast knowledge of her profession and would still use her skill of writing in shorthand when taking dictation or notes for tasks. Adapting to ever changing technology, she would work tirelessly to support all the attorneys she was assigned to, especially for the late Kenneth F. Kunzman, Esq.

Nora was predeceased by her husband Gunther Welten who was the absolute love of her life. They enjoyed many adventures together traveling, cooking and spending time with friends. Nora will be missed dearly by her many friends and colleagues. Although not family by blood, Nora was like a mother/grandmother to her dear neighbors Michael, Ann, Alexis and Abigail Kern. Celebrating birthdays, holidays and milestones as the girls grew to young women. Nora will now rest peacefully in eternal life with her beloved Gunther.

This was a great loss. Nora was a very kind person who I knew for 24 years. She helped me when I first came to Connell Foley, which was where I met her. She was a very talented knitter who made many beautiful things for so many people. I still have the slippers she made for me and will always treasure them. We had a lot in common, even her former boss, Skippy, who was a regular customer of mine at a restaurant I used to work for. Nora will be greatly missed. Nora, say hello to Gunther and Holly for me! I'm sure they're very happy to have you with them. now.

My Dear Nora, Yon were always therefore me in my time of need. I will always remember the day you came and we had lunch together. That was the start of a beautiful friendship. I will treasure the lovely crocheted cat scarves you made for me as well as your warm and comfy booties. You were such a talented knitter. The world has lost a beautiful person. May you rest in peace with Gunther and Holly. Say hello to Richard and Zippy for me. You will always be close at heart. Love you always.

In the short time I knew Nora Welten, she left a lasting impression on my heart. She was a remarkable woman who helped guide me through some of my darkest days, and for that, I will always be grateful. We often talked about the afterlife, and I know , without I doubt, that she is now at peace, reunited with her beloved husband, family, friends and her cherished pets. That brings me comfort and joy! Rip my friend.

Rest in peace, Nora. 🙏🏻 You will certainly be missed around the office. I will be thinking of you every time I make a cake with all of the baking pans you gave me, and will always think of you when I hear the Les Mis soundtrack. I know how much you loved that play! 24601 my friend ;)

Nora was such a kind soul. I always loved walking past her desk during lunch and having a conversation with her. They always ended with her offering me a piece of candy and insisting I take more. May her beautiful and kind soul rest in peace. I love you.

My Dear Virgo Nora - was always the beginning of any email or phone message. We looked forward to sharing our birthdays under the same sign and exchanging hand-knitted items in our shared favorite colors, teal and aqua. Since our mutual bosses, Mr. Foley and Mr. Kunzman, worked so closely together, you and I became just as close. We had many great laughs over the day Mr. Foley asked me for $5.00 to pay the shoeshine man for polishing his shoes. You in turn handed me $5.00 saying it was from Mr. Kunzman. I always believed it was from you because that was who you were. As I’m knitting a pair of socks I’m thinking of your never-ending talent for creating gifts from coats, matching hats, sweaters, hundreds of baby blankets to teaching the craft to anyone who was willing to learn. Thank you for friendship and unquestionable love. You were one of a kind. 💞Vigi
