Stephen Michael Cunniffe passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, surrounded by love.
Born at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey, Stephen was raised in Verona, where he built the foundation of the life and friendships he would carry with him always. After graduating high school, he followed his love of the outdoors to Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks, near Lake Placid—a place that reflected his appreciation for nature and simple pleasures.
Stephen was a dedicated and hardworking professional. He spent many years as a groundskeeper at Montclair Country Club before building a long and respected career with BH Security/Pye Barker. Over 25 years, he became known for his expertise as an inspector and lead installer, working on complex systems across major corporate buildings, hospitals, schools, and institutions. He took pride in doing things the right way—and doing them well.
He made his home in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and in his younger years, could often be found out on the golf course, enjoying the game as much as the camaraderie that came with it.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Jean Cunniffe. He is survived by his loving brothers: John Cunniffe, his wife Daniella, and their daughter Sloane; and Peter Cunniffe, his wife Maria, and their sons Ryan and Declan. He also leaves behind extended family across Ireland and England, connections he held close to his heart.
Proud of his Irish heritage, Stephen never missed a chance to celebrate it—whether at a parade, a music festival, or simply raising a pint among friends. He had a warm, easygoing spirit and a deep appreciation for good company. Those who knew him will remember his loyalty, his quiet strength, and the way he showed up—for friends, for family, and for the moments that mattered.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 PM at Halpin-Bitecola Funeral Home, 1284 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ. A celebration of life will follow.
