Richard Tait Gustafson, a devoted veterinarian for over 40 years, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on January 26, 1959, in Summit, New Jersey, Richard was the beloved son of Richard A. Gustafson and Barbara Clapp Gustafson.
Richard’s lifelong passion for animal care defined his professional career, where he served the community with dedication and compassion. Beyond his work, he found joy in bowling as a member of the bowling team at Bowlero in Belleville, NJ, as well as in collecting comic books and model airplanes and cars, hobbies that reflected his spirited nature.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Phyllis King, and daughter Jennifer Gustafson. Richard’s memory will also be cherished by his family and numerous friends whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held at Halpin - Bitecola Brookdale Funeral and Cremation Service, located at 1284 Broad Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey, on May 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
