Lilian Anthony, a devoted member of the Catholic Church and cherished participant in the St. Theresa Ministry of Motherless Babies, passed away on May 4, 2026, in Bronx, New York. Born on July 15, 1952, in Calabar, Nigeria, Lilian was a woman of unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and profound love for her family.
The daughter of Francis and Catherine (née Chediak) Anthony, both of whom preceded her in death along with her uncle Johnny Anthony, and niece Catherine Anthony, Lilian carried their legacy of kindness and resilience throughout her life. She was known for her selfless spirit, always willing to give everything she had, even in times of personal hardship. Her favorite Saint, St. Charbel, reflected the depth of her spirituality. Lilian found joy in simple pleasures such as watching Mass from her couch with a cup of tea, embarking on shopping trips, and cherishing every moment spent with loved ones. She was a tireless supporter of her children, never giving up on them, and traveled to Our Lady of Lourdes as a testament to her faith.
Lilian is survived by her daughter Marien Famuyiwa, her husband Bola; her son, Francis Umude and his wife Wunmi; her younger son, Mark Umude and her brother, George Anthony and his wife Elizabeth. Her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness, include Bianca Famuyiwa, Simi Famuyiwa, Joshua Famuyiwa, Emma Umude, AJ Umude, Ana Umude, Kamonie Umude, Milan Umude, Malaya Umude, Aliya Umude, and Mason Umude.
She was also a beloved aunt to George Anthony, Betty Anthony, Yvonne Bolumole, Bome Anthony, Peter Anthony, JJ Anthony, Soji Anthony, Francois Anthony, Alex Anthony, Magretha Anthony, and Henry Anthony.
Lilian Anthony's life was a testament of relentless love , devotion to her children, faith and endless generosity. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives she enriched.
