Lillie Mae Holman, aged 92, was born on March 14,1934 in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of Benjamin Holman, Sr. and Joanna Rose Hardy Holman. Following the passing of her father, her family moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey, where she was a lifelong resident.
Lillie Mae was more affectionately known as “Aunt Little” or “Little” to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
After graduating from Bloomfield High School, Lillie Mae started her 47-year career as a dedicated secretary with the Army Reserve until her retirement in 2000.
Lillie Mae was known for her unwavering faith and dedication to New Light Baptist Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey, where she served as Trustee and was honored as Church Mother. Her commitment to the church community and her nurturing spirit made her a cherished figure among her fellow congregants.
As an avid bowler, Lillie Mae participated for decades, even as recently as November 2025, in the Bowlero Bowling League, making lifelong friends and traveling across the country for numerous tournaments over the years. She was also a loyal fan of the New York Mets and rarely missed a televised game. Her love of children enriched her life, and her generous and caring nature touched many lives.
Lillie Mae’s family was the center of her world. She is survived by her son, Christopher Bennett; her daughters Robin Apollon (husband Harry), Jennifer Monteiro-Brown, Rachel Monteiro-Pepple (husband Christopher), and Dana Monteiro. She also leaves behind a loving legacy of grandchildren—Stephen, Julien, Miles, Celine, Angelica, Natalia, Nadine, Ava, Evan, Chalvar, and Zalia—and one great-grandchild, Dahlia, along with many beloved godchildren.
Lillie Mae departed this life on June 3, 2026. Her legacy will live through all who are fortunate to have known her.
Visitation will be held at New Light Baptist Church, 89 Dewey Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey, on June 9, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Glendale Cemetery, 28 Hoover Avenue, Bloomfield, New Jersey, at 12:30 p.m. on the same day.
